SSCI

SSCI seeks to ‘encourage the creation of places, designed and built to last, where a high quality of life can be achieved.’ The ultimate aim is to create ‘places which are ambitious and inspiring, raising standards and developing skills in design, architecture and sustainable construction.

Grandhome was selected by the Scottish Government to be a part of the Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative, with a view to making it one of the most sustainable developments in the country.

The Government launched the program in 2008, calling for local authorities, landowners and others to submit sites for consideration. A team including representatives from the Government, Transport Scotland, Homes for Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, and Architecture + Design Scotland then reviewed 68 proposals to select 11 national exemplar projects, including Grandhome.

SSCI seeks to ‘encourage the creation of places, designed and built to last, where a high quality of life can be achieved.’ The ultimate aim is to create ‘places which are ambitious and inspiring, raising standards and developing skills in design, architecture and sustainable construction.’ The Grandhome masterplan is designed to achieve these aims, by providing a blueprint for neighbourhood-based development, in which parks, shops and basic daily needs are located within walking distance.

Grandhome has participated in a number of SSCI events and programmes, the most notable being the SSCI Charrette Series.
