The guide to family friendly Easter Bank Holiday events around Aberdeenshire

Fairy trail easter

As the Easter weekend approaches it looks like the weather is warming up with temperatures in Aberdeen to sit at around 13C – but have you got plans to entertain hyped up children?

From Easter egg hunts to fairy trials and orienteering, we’ve got you covered with our roundup of events happening in and around Aberdeen this Bank Holiday weekend.

Set out on an Easter egg trail at a historic castle

A visit to a country home or castle run by the National Trust is always a good day out, but this Easter, they’re running some egg-stra exciting events.

Castle Fraser Gardens in Inverurie is running Easter egg trails for the whole family to enjoy from Friday April 15 to Monday April 18, from 10.30am to 3pm.

You don’t need to book a ticket and you can arrive at any time, so its perfect if you’re looking for something to do this weekend. The trail only costs £4 and after a walk through the gardens and woodlands, you will find a chocolate surprise. Find more information over on the Facebook page.

Embark on a Fairy Woods Easter Extravaganza

If you would like to explore Aberdeenshire, Aden country park is hosting a Fairy Woods Easter Extravaganza from April 15 to April 17 and there are a whole range of activities that children of all ages will enjoy.

At the event, you’ll be able to search the forest to find out where the fairies live and deliver treasure to help them with their magic. The fairies will leave the children mini chocolate eggs to collect and at the end, you can choose a boxed Easter egg from the Egg Shed. It doesn’t get much better than this if you ask us!

If you are looking for something even more active, you can embark on an orienteering adventure by using the map provided to find the hidden flags. Children will be able to score their card and collect some of nature’s treasures for extra points. You’ll even get to collect a mini chocolate egg at each flag and then get a boxed egg from the Egg Shed.

You will need to book tickets in advance and remember to bring a jumper and shoes you don’t mind getting mucky. Tickets are £12 and can be booked on Event Brite.

Complete an Easter scavenger hunt from your garden or local area

If you’re looking for something closer to home, then we’ve put together a fun Easter activity pack that your family can enjoy from the comfort of your garden. Follow the Easter scavenger hunt and tick it off as you go, or you could even create your own Easter egg with our colouring in sheet.
