The Easter school holidays are a wonderful time for families to spend quality time together and enjoy some fun activities. At Grandhome in Bridge of Don, there are plenty of things to do in and around the area that will keep everyone entertained and are suitable for all budgets. In this Grandhome guide, we’ve listed some of our top activities for families in the Aberdeen area during the Easter holidays. 

Easter Activities 

Aberdeen City Council is hosting a range of free activities during the Easter holidays for children aged between five and 14-years-old to take part in across Aberdeen. From storytelling, Lego club, ice skating, as well as film and song creation workshops, there is something for all ages and interests.

Trip to the Beach and Aberdeen Science Centre 

Aberdeen is home to some beautiful beaches, and Easter is the perfect time to explore them. Take a stroll along the golden sand dunes of Balmedie Beach or enjoy the stunning views of the North Sea from the promenade at Aberdeen Beach – only a 19-minute cycle from Grandhome. If the weather permits, pack a picnic and spend the day exploring the 2-mile-long, sandy beach. 

If you have a stroll along Aberdeen Beach, why not visit the Aberdeen Science Centre? Only a 9-minute walk from the beach front promenade, the Aberdeen Science Centre is a hands-on science museum in Aberdeen that offers a variety of interactive exhibits and displays. Families can explore topics such as space, the human body, and energy, learning about science in a fun and engaging way. Aberdeen Beach

Discover the City’s Historic Sites 

Aberdeen is steeped in history, and Easter is an ideal time to explore the city’s historic sites. Visit the imposing fortress of Dunnottar Castle located in Stonehaven, only 30-minute drive from Grandhome. Full of history, Dunnottar Castles is a paradise for both photographers and history enthusiasts as well as an iconic tourist landmark for visitors from across the globe. 

The Aberdeen Maritime Museum is another must-visit. Only a 21-minute cycle from Grandhome and recently re-opened, the museum is a great place to learn about the city’s seafaring heritage and its role in the North Sea oil industry. The museum features exhibits and interactive displays that are both informative and fun for all ages. 

Dunnottar Castle

Discover The Den & The Glen 

Formerly known as Storybook Glen, The Glen is a fun, family-friendly outdoor area located only a 22-minute drive from Grandhome. Featuring a variety of attractions all themed around popular children’s stories and fairy tales, The Glen is a must see this Easter. 

After a morning of exploring, let children burn off any extra energy in The Den, an indoor soft play area with a restaurant for parents to unwind in.

Go on a Nature Walk 

Grandhome is surrounded by beautiful countryside. With the River Don Heritage Trail on Grandhome’s doorstep, take a leisurely walk along the picturesque waterside of the River Don. Explore Aberdeen’s rich industrial history on the walk too. Although the textile mills are now closed, remnants of this era, such as old machinery and buildings, can still be seen along the trail.  

There are many other beautiful nature trails and parks in the Bridge of Don and Aberdeen area that are perfect for a family walk. Duthie Park, Hazlehead Park and Balmedie Country Park are some of the popular spots where families can enjoy fresh air and scenic views.
