Festive Season in Aberdeen

The countdown is officially on to Christmas. We know the lead up to Christmas is a busy one, so we have pulled together a list of some fun activities to do with the family in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to get you in the festive spirit.

  • Aberdeen Christmas Market

Aberdeen Christmas Village is back and better than ever! In partnership with Codona’s and Aberdeen Inspired, the Christmas Village has returned to Broad Street with something for the whole family. There are thrilling fairground rides for all ages, European winter food and drink stalls, and an outdoor ice rink with a stunning backdrop of Marischal College. There is also the Christmas Market which can be found in the centre of Marischal College in partnership with local charity Charlie House’s Curated in the Quad – a hub for local businesses – perfect for those last-minute presents. Businesses include Aberdeen favourites Cookie Cult, Esker Spirits, and Kilted Fudge.

What are you waiting for? Grab your friends and family and head down to the Aberdeen Christmas Village before it closes on Friday 31st December. Opening times and further information can be found here.

  • Shop Local

Supporting local businesses is more important than ever, so consider switching your Christmas shopping to local independent stores. In addition to Curate in the Quad Market, check out Bellino, an independent boutique that specialises in women’s fashion and footwear, where you can find some great statement pieces for a loved one – or treat yourself!

If you’re looking for ways to spruce up your home or looking for gifts for someone, try Annie Mo’s for carefully curated interior design pieces. The independent interior shop found on Union Street dates back to 1992 and offers delivery in the Aberdeen area.

  • Winter Walks

Walk off all the delicious Christmas food in the many walking routes in Aberdeen. Why not have a wander around Duthie Park with a hot chocolate from the Park Café to keep you warm? Or crisp winter stroll around Hazlehead Park or Scotstown Moor.

  • Festive Crafts

If you don’t fancy venturing out into the cold, why not try your hand at some festive crafts. Florist Philippa Craddock offers a step-by-step guide in making a gorgeous Christmas wreath perfect for your home. You can even personalise it using materials like pinecones from your winter walks around the local area. Take a look at our flora and fauna guide to find out more.

Alternatively, download our Christmas activity pack to keep the family entertained with a scavenger hunt to decorating their own Christmas tree. The pack can be downloaded here.

  • Aberdeen Hogmanay Celebrations

When Christmas has come and gone, turn your spirits to New Years Eve. Ring in the bells in Schoolhill from 8pm with the ultimate Aberdeen street party.  Three top-class acts will be the focal point of Aberdeen’s Hogmanay celebrations, closing the city’s festivities in style. First to perform at the free, non-ticketed event from 8.30pm will be local DJ Jeff Diack, followed by the Silver City Soul Revue, culminating with Kopycat Killers.

More information can be found here.
