summer activities grandhome

We’re officially in the midst of the summer holidays and you might feel you’re starting to run out of ideas to keep the family entertained. For all budgets and adventures, it’s a good idea to have a handy list of things to do before the schools return. Read on to find our favourite summer activities near Grandhome.

Make a splash at Stonehaven Open Air Pool

At Stonehaven’s Open Air Swimming Pool, you can find an Olympic-size 50m long swimming pool filled with heated, clean sea water surrounded by sheltered sun terraces – perfect if you are looking for something different in the summer!

There is a slide for everyone to enjoy, and for younger swimmers, there is a paddling pool for under-8s. The pool area is entirely wheelchair accessible for those requiring special needs access, and a hoist and friendly assistance are available.

During the summer holidays, Stonehaven Open Air Pool has also been hosting fun sessions for all ages, including Kids Fun, Inflatables and Live Music, to name only a few. Visit their website to find opening times and ticket prices.

Get Baking!

Get your family together in the kitchen for a good old-fashioned bake-off, especially if it’s a dreich day. The possibilities are endless if you head over to Aberdeen’s local Foodie Quine by Claire Jessiman’s food blog.

From banana, strawberry and honey muffins to s’mores tiffin, there is something for everyone. You could even challenge yourself with former Bake-Off winner Candice Brown’s chocolate mud cake recipe from The Press and Journal. Everyone can help, whether their job is reading the recipe or stirring the ingredients, you can easily get the whole family involved.

Take a drive to Wynford Farm

Only 16 minutes in the car from Grandhome, Wynford Farm promises to entertain the entire family. There is an outdoor farm park and an indoor soft play area and café, there really is plenty of activities for everyone.

At the Farm Park, you can say hello to many animals, including pigs, goats and ferrets, chickens, alpacas and even meerkats. You can even get up close and personal to some of the fluffiest members of Wynford Farm in their fluffy animal handling sessions.

They even have an outdoor adventure playground, which is every future farmer’s dream, with authentic old farm tractors, diggers and pedal tractors, bouncing pillows, zip-lines and pedal go-karts. If the weather starts to take a turn, there is still so much to do in the soft play area with slides, cross rope bridges, ball pits and more.
